Riverside Inn The Inn originated in the mind of a young art student, Howard Garrison. As a student at Washington University in St. Louis, he spent time at Biers Ford on the Finley River, sketching the beautiful countryside and river, and dreaming of a riverside restaurant. He and his father purchased five acres of land beside the river he loved, cleared timber, and built a restaurant in 1923. Young Garrison did his own decorating of the small one-room cafe. Over the years, this local artist, and sometimes infamous celebrity, added rooms and transformed the cafe into his own personal art gallery. The ambiance is still here. Garrison's original artwork is remains prominently displayed in each of the nine dining rooms. Authentic period furniture and mirrors add just the right finishingtouches. If you close your eyes you may even be able to imagine the Riverside Inn in its heyday as a speakeasy and gambling parlor, activities that led to a raid by federal agents in 1929, and landed Garrison in jail. Owner-manager Eric Engel has added some choice items to the menu to compliment the specials that Garrison himself madefamous. Nestled along the banks of the scenic Finley River, the Riverside Inn is easy to find. Take Missouri 65 to the Ozark exit (Hwy 14), go east to 3rd St., turn left, go to Riverside Rd., turn right, and follow the road to the Inn. No trip to the Ozark area would be complete without a visit to the Riverside Inn. For more information call: 417-581-7051 or write: Riverside Inn 2629 N.
