2004 Committee Descriptions Economic Development & Tourism This committee will continue to find avenues to promote Ozark, They will assist the city in attracting new business and industry. Plans are to work closely with the Tourism Committee to perhaps add Ozark as a destination for tour buses by trying to make Ozark a stop on the annual tour bus operators and guide tour presented by Springfield & Branson chambers. We have also developed a Shop Ozark First program to help encourage Ozark citizens to shop local. This committee works with a cross-section of volunteers from several retail, service, and tourism businesses represented. They are in the process of evaluating the way Ozark can be exploited to attract more tourism dollars from the great numbers of tourist passing by or through the city throughout the year. Some ideas being discussed include a tourism brochure, advertising avenues, and publicity for the many attributes that would be attractive to the average tourist in this area. Partners in Education The purpose of this committee is to stay in contact with our area school system and help promote our local businesses to be a part of our schools. This committee is responsible for forming an alliance with the school resource person or persons to receive weekly information to be distributed to our membership through email on a weekly basis so that we can remain informed of school activities and functions. Shop Ozark Cards/Shop Ozark Program This committee is responsible for obtaining the businesses that are to be placed on the 2004 Shop Ozark Card, designing the card and preparing for card sales through the school system. This committee requires a solid core of committee members at least 3 to meet from Feb. to August. Then 5 separate persons are to be placed as team captains 1 at each Ozark school. East, North, South, Upper and Kindergarten no later than August 1, 2004. This committee is responsible for the development and implementation of the Shop Ozark First Program, which encourages citizens to shop their Ozark businesses. Membership This committee encompasses the Membership Drive, Mixers, Ribbon Cuttings, and Grand Openings. The membership drive is scheduled for May of 2004 and it is the responsibility of this committee to set the date, time and place for this function. It is also this committee that develops a list of potential new members to call on in a fun and interesting way for our board members. And as always, this committee will continue to encourage renewals from present members. This committee also organizes an Ambassador Club, consisting of retired businessperson and former board members to attend Chamber functions as well as represent area businesses. Membership Communications & Media This committee produces our monthly newsletter to be distributed to all members. This committee is also responsible for any news worthy information being sent to the media. Golf Tourney/ Annual Christmas Parade Parade Scheduled for November 20, 2004 Will need approximately 15 member/volunteers to serve on committee to complete project. Planning for this event will most likely begin in August. This committee is also responsible for the planning, & organization of our annual spring golf tourney. To be held in May of 2004. Auction/Business Expo Committee This committee is always headed by the Vice-President. It is responsible for the preparation, solicitation, publicity, and implementation of the Chamber's annual auction. This will be held in March/April of 2003. Every board member as well as chamber member will be asked to participate as a donor and as a bidder. This is the chamber's single largest source of non-dues income and the changes this year are intended to bolster the profits that have stagnated over the past few years. A date needs to be set and location chosen, such as the Ozark High School or perhaps a local restaurant. The public will be invited and therefore able to bid on items. (This is in contrast with past auctions where members donated items and then were also buyers at the banquet). This will enable the public to help support the chamber as well as hopefully increase attendance. Concessions will be available and hopefully run by the chamber as another source of income. Plans are indefinite but should be finalized very soon. Business Expo: This event has in the past been paired with our annual auction. It is of some concern to our board that perhaps both would do better if held separately. This year we will need to discuss this issue at length and decide the best way to solve this. It has been stated in the past perhaps we host our Expo at the Duck Stadium. Christmas Lights of Ozark This committee is responsible for the fund raising, promotion and organizing of the Festival of Lights. It is also the responsibility of this committee to set up the dates of the CLOZ workdays and find groups or individuals to help with the set up each year in October at the Finley River Park. This committee is also responsible for appointing committee members to pick up the money, deposit the donations and close down the park each evening during the Festival of Lights each year. This committee is to decide the best way to encourage donations from area businesses and individuals as well as participation. The fund raising and ordering of new displays are also the responsibility of the CLOZ committee. Fall Festival This committee is responsible for the planning and orchestration of our annual Fall Festival each year. Meeting should start no later than February of each year for that years Festival. This committee requires regular monthly meeting until May, then we go to twice a month then in August we meet weekly until the Festival. This committee requires approximately 10-15 volunteers. Website This committee is responsible for the development, promotion and weekly update of our current website, OzarkChamber.com. Budget Committee/Treasurer Responsible for establishing 2004 Chamber Budget and audit of financial records. Preparing any tax forms and review of tax status. Executive Committee This committee consists of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Executive Director. They are responsible for setting the monthly Board Meeting agenda. In the event that a majority of the board may not be reached for a decision in a timely manner, the executive committee is empowered to make the decision. |
